SHUMI Tsungu, of Wellard, will represent African wear in the inaugural Perth Fashion Festival (TPFF) Multicultural Runway next month .

She said it was a great opportunity for fashion designers from different cultures to gain exposure.

“A lot of the designers are from an African background but are getting their education in Perth so they’re implementing their skills on African designs that are modern,” Ms Tsungu said.

Ms Tsungu is a committee member on the Multicultural Runway and is the Face of Africa Australia magazine founder.

Aisha Novakovich is hoping to break stereotypes about Muslims with the inclusion of modest wear in festival.

“It’s really important in this climate that people get to experience what modest fashion looks like for the modern Muslim woman,” she said.

“It’s really about education and ultimately we want to normalise modern fashion wear.

“Modest wear is not just for Muslims; all women can dress the way she chooses and that extends to what a Muslim woman wears.”

Bindiya Manchanda is representing Indian wear.

She said people were hosting themed parties and in multicultural marriages the bride and groom both often wore traditional dress.

Mrs Manchanda said her husband’s workplace recently hosted a Bollywood themed party so his colleagues raided her wardrobe.

The trio agreed that the audience will appreciate the music and entertainment as much as the fashion.Read more at:beautiful formal dresses | bridesmaid dresses
